Horse Riding School
Distance: 100m (directly across road)
The Riding School has a large range of horses and ponies to choose from, with various levels of skills suitable for anyone, whether just wanting a casual farm ride or longer trek excursions.
Just stroll across the road to enquire or have a coffee and some home made food from their cafe.
Sumner Beach
Distance: 5km (10min via car)
Sumner beach has a wide sandy area and is popular with families. The beach is great for swimming and sunbathing, and has a sheltered and protected swimming area that is very safe. The beach is patrolled and you are encouraged to “always swim between the flags”.
Located on the beach and across the road are cafes and shops.
Surfers generally surf on the other side of Cave Rock which has a swell suitable for learners and intermediates, although an off shore wind can produce something for the more experienced surfer.
Christchurch Gondola
Distance: 1km (Walking Distance)
An unmissable Christchurch experience, the Gondola offers stunning panoramic views of the city, Lyttelton Harbour, and beyond. Gaze at the snow-capped Southern Alps, sprawling Canterbury Plains and the sparkling waters of Pegasus Bay and the Pacific Ocean. A great family-friendly spot to explore.
The summit station offers plenty to entertain: explore the many walking tracks, learn about the history of the area on the Christchurch Discovery Ride, and indulge in a spot of shopping at the well-priced gift shop. Sit back and take in the fantastic views with a drink, snack, or meal from the licensed Red Rock Café.
Lyttleton
Distance: 4km
Lyttleton is only a short five minute drive away.
A must visit is the Saturday morning “market” that has a huge number of stalls, shops and fresh produce options – an extensive variety to choose from for your daily walk into the township.
Lyttelton is a “port town” with a long history. Christchurch’s first European settlers landed here in 1850 before trekking over the Port Hills to establish their new home.
Today Lyttelton is accessed by an impressive road tunnel, which is less than one Km from the house, or you can take the Gondola and walk from the hill top down to the township. It’s a colourful town, home to a community of nearly 3,000, brimming with bohemian artists, cafes, quirky shops and restaurants.

Clearwater:
A magnificent 18-hole course awaits the avid or beginner golfer who wants to experience Christchurches leading golf course.
With its glistening spring-fed lakes, Clearwater lives up to its name, providing a lush oasis close to the city and Christchurch International Airport that offers a golfing escape and a change of pace that few destinations can match.
Ferrymead:
Whether you wish to play a round of golf, smack some golf balls or play your way round the mini putt course, the Ferrymead golf facility is the perfect place to do it.
The par 3 course has a traditional links feel, winding its way along the side of the estuary amongst the cabbage trees and tussocks that define the area.
